THE FISHING continues to be good over the reefs and the jetties when the water is clean with soft plastics and live bait. Mirrolure topwater and suspended baits work the best for that early morning bite before the heat take over. Check out the pictures below form the last two days.

Even with the relentless south east wind blowing over 20 mph sometimes, the fishermen still continue to bring good catches of 16� to 26� redfish to the dock for the grill. This whole system if FULL of Speckled trout and Redfish and when the wind lays down for a couple of days you are not going to believe the trout that will be brought to the dock. The month of June is totally booked and we are already 68% booked in July. NOW is time to book your late summer or early fall trip to our lodge and take advantage of this fantastic estuary to catch to speckled trout and redfish. DON�T WAIT and miss this opportunity to take your kids fishing this summer.

The September Teal season dates will be set soon and we are only booking 10 blinds this year so as soon as we get the dates we will let you know.

What a great week we had here at the lodge. Hunton Distribution (Trane A/C) spent four days with us catching fish everyday. The fishing has been super with catches of solid (3 to 6 pound) trout caught on Corky�s and top water Mirrolures. Lots of redfish and trout limits coming off the reefs and under diving seagulls. As the wind began to lie down across Lake Calcasieu yesterday afternoon the seagulls began to pick at the surface for belly filling shrimp driven to the top by feeding Speckled Trout. Excited fishermen raced to the event for some pole bending action and some fish for the freezer. Calm winds will improve the water conditions and the top water bite will improve during the month of June. The next few weeks through mid August will be a great time to catch fish here on the lake. GOOD MORNING FROM THE SPECKLED TROUT CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, HACKBERRY ROD AND GUN IN LEDGENDARY HACKBERRY, LOUISIANA

May opened with howling winds from the north but our friends from McCormick/Benekeith from San Antonio spent a weekend of fun, fellowship and fishing. Schools of redfish and diving seagulls looking for a free meal of frantic shrimp pointed the way to speckled trout. It seems that each week I�m highlighting another angler here at the lodge that has either caught a nice fish or done something special. This week it�s Joan DiGiovanna and she did BOTH. Check this out . . . . . Joan not only caught a super redfish on Pooh Buddy�s beach but was so excited about coming to Hackberry Rod & Gun she had her finger and toe nails painted with FISH for the trip. (Picture attached) YOU GO GIRL !!!!

CATCHING SPECKLED TROUT AND REDFISH:

The fishing and the catching is on "BIGTIME" here in the "Speckled Trout Capital of the World", Hackberry Rod & Gunin legendary Hackberry Louisiana. This morning groups of picking seagullswere concentrated right out in front of the lodge 300 feet from the end ofthe pier. With in 20 minutes we had 32 trout and 3 redfish which turned intolunch for the entire staff here at the lodge. WOO HOO. Big numbers ofspeckled trout are being caught on the lower end of the lake and it seemsthat everyday we catch a trophy fish for the wall. 2 HUGE SPECKLED TROUT HAVE BEEN CAUGHT IN THE LAST 2 DAYS

It�s that time of the year here in Southwest Louisiana. The BIG trout are just now beginning to show and will be more plentiful through mid to late June. Call us toll free at 1.888.762.3391 to check availability to get in on the BIG trout action.

Both of these fish were caught on Black/Chartreuse soft plastic baits. One was on the popular Hackberry Hustler (picture attached) the funny little bait with the �Come catch me eyes�and the other was on a bull minnow.

Captain Kirk Stansel caught the 8 pound 3 ounce beauty over an oyster reef on the south end of the lake and David Crary of Waxahachie, Texas slammed his huge 9 pounder in west Cove.

As we start April and our 2008 fishing season begins to really heat up the catching shows no sigh of slacking off. Last month produced super numbers of redfish and even some seagull action during the middle part of the month. Since hurricane Rita basically purged the Calcasieu system in September 2005 our fishing has been nothing short of SUPER. Even with strong winds during March our fishermen brought to the dock super catches with BIG Smiles. Our most productive baits have been H&H�s black/chartreuse Cocahoe minnow (picture attached) and the ever popular Hackberry Hustler. Monday Morning Update

Fishing this time of the year on Lake Calcasieu continues to be good from day to day. Catches of redfish and speckled trout under working birds continue to be the most fun you can have on the water. Squawking and diving seagulls picking at shrimp on the surface will always point the way to hungry trout and redfish.
